This and That

It's hard to believe that November is just around the corner, and while my blog posts may have dwindled of late, I have definitely been keeping busy this fall. Check out my shelf for some good new reads to keep you company, including Haley Tanner's Vaclev & Lena as well as Joshua Ferris' The Unnamed.

However, reading isn't my only hobby (I promise!); I've also been channeling my inner Martha Stewart a bit these last couple of months. For those of you who know Mamma NovelTease, aka The Mom Squad, aka Sharon, you are aware that she is a crazy-awesome sewer. So crazy-awesome, in fact, that she made exquisite quilts for each of my bridesmaids (and me!) this past year. Impressive, right? We've worked on a fair amount of projects together over the last few years, but truthfully I acted more as 'fabric consultant' than equal sewing partner, and she always came to the rescue when the machine got jammed. Well, after a really thorough sewing lesson with the Moms up in New York this past August, I finally felt ready to take the plunge and sew something all by myself (I'm so grown up, aren't I?). Here's what I made:

Pretty cute, right? And here's the pattern in case you want to make your own. The directions were pretty straightforward, even for this novice sewer!

A second project that has kept me busy is crafting a wreath out of book pages. It might sound a little cheesy, but I think the final result is totally lovely, modern, and perfect for winter.
Now, while the project itself is simple enough, I feel like I should give a disclaimer: it takes FOREVER to cover the whole wreath form with these little paper roses (especially when you are ambitious like me and buy the biggest foam wreath you can find), not to mention about 1,000 book pages and a fair share of glue gun burns. With all that in mind, if you are still feeling up to the challenge you can use this great tutorial, which I found via Pinterest.
